
First, the defensively-oriented British 2nd Army is built around tough infantry and insanely big guns. Two new armies are at the heart of Opposing Fronts. If only the new depth and the fun new stuff to play with didn't come at the cost of the elegance and simplicity of the original game. The expansion pack adds more armies and deeper strategy to Company of Heroes which, almost by default, can't help but be a good thing. Not only did it actually make World War II (a badly overused videogame setting) fun again, its strategic depth, elegance and simplicity raised the bar so high for RTS developers it would be tough for anyone to clear it - even Relic.

Company of Heroes was a revelation when it first released.

Another departure from mainstream RTS's was the implementation of sector supply whereby the resource income of a player is linked to the sectors under that player's control. Its gameplay placed emphasis on usage of varying degrees of cover together with a destructible terrain. The Korean and American versions featured the entire single-player campaign from the retail release while the Chinese version did not.Ĭompany of Heroes Online was a real-time strategy game which was based on Company of Heroes. The Chinese version was co-developed and published by Shanda while the South Korean version was published by WindySoft and developed entirely by Relic Entertainment. Relic also released a Chinese and a South Korean version of the game. The game uses the same graphics engine as the retail release of Company of Heroes. The game has no link with the original Company of Heroes multiplayer system and is a stand-alone game, unlike its predecessors.

The open beta for the game started on 2 September 2010, and the game was cancelled on March 31, 2011.
